The construction and commissioning of a new building of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Mary Velayat is the next step in the successful implementation of the “Saglyk” State Program of the President of Turkmenistan.
In order to ensure sanitary well-being in the velayat, this service uses developments and reforms of the health care system, laboratory equipment with the most advanced technologies, as well as laboratory research using various methods, tools and equipment for human health in the environment, working conditions, and nutritive.It serves the people of our velayat as a Disease Control Agency and Hygiene while maintaining the safety and quality of its products and drinking water.
In the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Mary Velayat, it introduces new innovative technologies and practices in the field of sanitation and hygiene, disease control, food safety and quality. Food laboratories with the main indicators of creating favorable conditions for the protection of human health, testing environmental factors by physical and chemical methods, laboratories of radiation hygiene, toxicology, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, as well as their regular certification and metrological support, carries out.
The construction of a warehouse for storing vaccines and other immunobiological preparations at a modern level in accordance with international standards in the structure of Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Mary Velayat in Turkmenistan will contribute to the further successful improvement of the national disease prevention program. Our country is the first and only country in the world that provides free vaccination against infectious diseases to the entire population.

Sanitary and Hygiene Department
Department of Municipal Hygiene - The main tasks of the Department are to control the provision of our population with clean drinking water in accordance with international standards, control the quality of drinking water using microbiological and chemical laboratory methods, to prevent infection and protect against infectious and non-infectious diseases, control of water sources of social and economic importance, canals, rivers and water bodies in the region, control over compliance with hygiene rules during treatment and preventive measures, hygienic and technical condition of pharmacies, nutrition of patients in hospitals with products, ensuring high quality drinking water and control over the disposal of medical waste in medical institutions in accordance with established standards.
The Occupational Hygiene and Transport Hygiene Department is responsible for creating safe working conditions, ensuring occupational safety, compliance with the requirements and rules of occupational hygiene at the workplace of workers, working in industrial enterprises, in agriculture, vehicles located in velayat. Conducts organizational measures aimed at the prevention and elimination of occupational diseases and industrial injuries, harmful working conditions. Measures related to the use of agrochemicals, the safety of human health and the environment are developed, and compliance with these measures is monitored.
The Food Hygiene Department - continues to work in food industry and catering enterprises, markets and retail outlets, carries out sanitary control over compliance with the requirements of the law “On Ensuring the Safety and Quality of Food Products” of the esteemed President of Turkmenistan. Also, microclimatic, physico-chemical measurements of illumination, quality and safety of food products are carried out at food enterprises in velayat in coordination with food sampling, hygienic and bacteriological studies. Samples of flour and table salt offered to the population at food production and catering enterprises, retail outlets and markets are regularly taken, and the content of iron and folic acid in flour and iodine in salt is monitored and controlled. In order to provide our people with high-quality and safe vegetables, laboratory tests are regularly carried out to determine the residual amount of nitrates and pesticides used in their cultivation and the quality of products is monitored. Strict control over the origin, storage, transportation and sale of food products offered to the population in public catering establishments, retail outlets and markets, as well as food products prepared at home of unknown origin, without a certificate of conformity and with an expiration date, are removed from sale and destroyed by an organized service group in prohibited areas.
Department of Hygiene of Children and Adolescents - based on great concern for the happy life of children in our country, healthy mental and physical development, modern education, education in the spirit of patriotism and humanism, monitors compliance with hygiene rules, aimed at healthy nutrition of children and healthy living of the younger generation in child care institutions located in velayat.
Department of Sanitation and Environmental Protection of New Construction and Reconstruction Facilities- works to ensure compliance with sanitary standards and requirements during the construction of residential areas or individual objects. Development of hygienic standards that provide conditions that prevent the harmful effects of various conditions of the new construction environment on the human body, development of state standards, norms and indicators of design and construction with the addition of hygienic standards and requirements, selection, justification and approval of a land plot for construction, in compliance with sanitary standards in design and construction, in compliance with sanitary standards when commissioning newly constructed facilities, in analyzing construction projects, in providing the population with clean drinking water, in protecting the environment and soil from harmful conditions, in preventing diseases caused by exposure to harmful factors on workers and populated areas in combination with laboratory research will allow monitoring of relevant activities.

The sanitary and hygienic laboratory consists of five departments:
Food Hygiene Department has modern equipment, and organoleptic, physicochemical, and toxicological studies of quality and safety indicators of food products and food raw materials grown in our country and imported from abroad are carried out using modern new methods.
Toxicology Department conducts research to determine the amount of pesticide residues in food products, nitrates in vegetables, heavy metal salts in food products and materials in contact with food products.
Department of Municipal Hygiene Equipped with modern equipment, this laboratory allows us to identify environmental factors, improve working conditions for the population, and monitor the provision of high-quality clean and safe drinking water to our population.
Occupational Health Department conducts tests using spectrophotometry, titrimetry, photometry, using the most modern methods for measuring the composition of the environment, atmospheric air, air in workplaces, air pressure, dust and gas contamination in public and industrial buildings.
Department of Physicochemical Research measures the composition of the environment, atmospheric air, air in workplaces, microclimate, temperature, humidity, pressure, electromagnetic field, wind, humidity, air speed in residential, public and industrial buildings,parameters of samples tested for environmental factors are quickly determined using analyzers.
Department of Radiation Hygiene carries out dosimetry, radiochemical research of X-ray equipment, construction and everyday life objects, residential and public buildings, open spaces of populated areas, air, drinking water, soil. Alpha, beta, gamma and X-ray spectrometry, radonometry are carried out using laboratory instruments.
Epidemiological department is responsible for preventing the spread of mass infectious diseases among our population, for ensuring that the people lead a healthy lifestyle and for the healthy growth of our young generation in the future, studies infectious diseases seasonally, based on multi-sectoral work plans carries out economic activities in agreement with institutions and enterprises. Prevention of infectious diseases, prevention of their occurrence and spread, propaganda, explanation and communication are carried out in organized places in our society. In institutions healthcare providers providing medical care to the population regularly monitor compliance with hygiene rules using equipment and methods that meet modern international standards. An extensive analysis, monitoring and study of the dynamics of registration of each registered infectious disease and age-related characteristics of the disease, referral and direct registration, registration among rural and urban residents is carried out.
Parasitology Department of Laboratory Diagnostics is responsible for the study of protozoa and helminths that cause parasitic and tropical diseases, preventing the spread of parasitic diseases, identifying disease outbreaks and organizing anti-epidemic measures depending on the season of parasitic diseases. Activities are being carried out in coordination with enterprises and monitoring helminths in medical institutions, schools and preschool institutions.
Department For Combating the Spread of Particularly Dangerous Infectious Diseases-responsible for preventing the occurrence, importation and spread of highly infectious and quarantine infectious diseases among our population. The department oversees the preparation, diagnosis and prevention of infectious diseases in sanitary institutions. Develops plans together with relevant departments based on the legislation to combat the spread of diseases to prevent conditions that can reveal particularly dangerous infectious diseases among the population, regardless of the form of ownership, to maintain and protect the sanitary well-being of the population and organizes group inspections with relevant organizations to carry them out.
Laboratory of Particularly Dangerous Infectious Diseases - takes measures to protect the country’s territory from the introduction and spread of particularly dangerous quarantine infections. Tests are carried out using reliable and modern methods.
Bacteriological laboratory - is carried out there in connection with the prevention of infectious diseases in food products and food raw materials, water, soil and other vital objects of the human environment. This will provide opportunities to identify all types of pathogenic microorganisms.
Virology laboratory- studies will be carried out using automated equipment for the diagnosis of influenza viruses, hepatitis, measles, rubella and various types of viral diseases using microscopy, immunoenzymes, and polymerase chain, reaction and DNA sequencing methods.
Conference hall for 300 seats
A conference hall with 300 seats in the building of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Mary Velayat makes it possible to hold a presentation of books donated to the Turkmen people by our Hero-Arkadag and Arkadagly Hero Serdar, as well as laws and regulations adopted for the benefit of the country in the field of healthcare.

The mobile laboratory is a Mercedes-Benz vehicle equipped with a set of laboratory equipment that meets international standards and consists of physical, chemical and bacteriological departments. The mobile laboratory is designed for prompt physical-chemical, bacteriological, toxicological and radiological studies of harmful substances in environmental objects, soil, air, drinking water, food products, as well as in the working conditions of citizens. This saves doctors' working time and allows them to conduct research with high results.
