Blood Center of the Directorate of Infectious Diseases Centers

The Blood Transfusion Station of the Turkmen SSR was established on the basis of Order No. 147 on the People's Communist Healthcare of the Turkmen SSR dated April 25, 1937. Based on the order of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan dated January 18, 1994 No. 6, the Blood Transfusion Station of the Turkmen SSR was renamed the Central Blood Transfusion Station, and based on the order of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan dated July 1, 2000 No. 179, the station was renamed the Blood Center.

Based on the Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan No. 11034 dated April 15, 2010, the Blood Center was included in the Directorate of Infectious Disease Centers of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan. Based on the order of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan No. 220 dated June 10, 2010, the Blood Center was closed as a legal entity, and on September 1, 2010, the Blood Center of the Directorate of Infectious Disease Centers was created.

The main goal of the blood center is to provide medical institutions with high-quality blood or its components, as well as to carry out appropriate organizational and methodological work in this regard, popularize donation, improve the professional level of medical workers, and introduce innovative technologies into medicine.

Blood Center is equipped with modern, latest equipment. Center can accept blood from about 100,000 donors, process 50,000 liters of blood and prepare various blood components to supply hospitals. The center is equipped with dozens of devices designed to safely and efficiently perform functions such as receiving blood and its components, preparing and storing blood products from world-famous companies.

The center is well equipped to supply patients with blood and its components.

Blood Center of the Directorate of Infectious Disease Centers includes a donor department, a clinical diagnostic department, on-site blood collection, an immunological department and a blood quality analysis department, a department for the preparation of blood and its components, as well as organizational and methodological departments.

Center's donor department is the beginning of the center's work, where donors are accepted and their ability to donate blood is determined. Donors undergo special medical examinations. Donors, regardless of nationality, place of residence and life situation, are accepted from persons aged eighteen to sixty years old who are able to donate blood and have no medical contraindications to donating blood and its components.

As a result of scientific research and practical observations, 400-450 ml of periodic blood sampling is not only harmless and safe for human health, but also has a positive effect on the body. Donor does not have to worry about his health, since all blood collection procedures are carried out under the supervision of a doctor using sterile disposable systems.

In the clinical diagnostic department, blood and its components taken from donors are tested for the presence of infectious diseases using methods that meet international standards. Blood and its components are sent to medical institutions upon request after full testing. Department also conducts blood typing and Rh tests of citizens, as well as complete and incomplete studies for isoimmune antibodies in pregnant women.

Preparation of donor blood, control of the quantity and quality of components obtained from blood in the field blood collection department, department of immunology and blood quality analysis of the center are carried out using innovative technologies based on the latest levels of science. This department also has specialized blood collection equipment, which can be transported to institutions and medical centers to collect blood from donors.

Blood and components preparation department of the center has two operating rooms for collecting blood and its components from donors; the premises allow simultaneous collection of blood and components from 14 donors. In the department, a platelet concentrate is prepared using the Haemonetis MCS apparatus using machine cytopheresis. Previously, 1 therapeutic dose of platelets (200 ml) was prepared from 4 donors; now, using this device, 1 therapeutic dose (200 ml) is prepared from 1 donor. In this machine, platelets are taken from the donor's blood, and the remaining parts of the blood are returned to the donor. Also, up to 1 liter of plasma from one donor is prepared by apheresis in the Haemonetis PS apparatus. Сenter carries out inactivation of viruses in plasma using the Makartonik apparatus and in platelet concentrates using the Intercept illuminator apparatus.

In addition, the Blood Center uses leukocyte filter devices that meet international standards to collect blood. This device prevents the risk of transmission of viruses (human T-lymphotropic virus, cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr virus) and other infections during transfusion of blood or its components.

In the area of blood processing, the Blood Center has made great strides in developing 100% of the resulting hemoconservative blood components. In the blood processing department, the automatic blood separator is capable of separating blood into plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. In addition, the center has refrigerators and freezers designed to store blood or its components that meet international standards.

These freezers operate at -75°C and quickly freeze 24 doses of plasma at a time, ensuring complete preservation of blood clotting factors. Blood components in the blood center are erythrocyte mass, leukofiltered erythrocyte mass, platelet and leukocyte mass, platelet concentrate, fresh frozen plasma, leukofiltered fresh frozen plasma, virus-inactivated plasma, virus-inactivated platelet concentrate, cryoprecipitate, native concentrated plasma, aimed at fully meeting the demand of medical institutions.

Blood Center employees at enterprises, and health center organizations conduct sanitary educational work among students and the population to promote donation.
